HIV Insights: A Three Part Educational Series

Join KyIP and Dr. Anupama Raghuram, MD for a comprehensive virtual event designed to enhance your knowledge of HIV prevention, treatment, and management. This three-day series, led by Dr. Anu Raghuram, will provide evidence-based insights into the complexities of HIV, offering actionable strategies for healthcare professionals to improve outcomes and mitigate risks.

This series is presented by the Kentucky Infection Prevention Training Center and is open to all healthcare professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of HIV and its implications on public health.

While this event is free, registration is required. 

Join us every Thursday in February 2025

Day 1: HIV Transmission, Pathogenesis, and Diagnosis

Date: February 13

Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EST

Session Objectives:

a) Discuss epidemiology and public health impact of HIV

b) Review HIV life cycle, pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations

c) Discuss available HIV screening and diagnostic testing

Day 2: HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Date: February 20

Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EST

Session Objectives:

a) Review HIV PrEP trials

b) Discuss risk assessment and indications for PrEP

c) Discuss PrEP medication options

d) Review PrEP monitoring and follow up requirements

Day 3: General Principles of HIV Treatment

Date: February 27

Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EST

Session Objectives:

a) Discuss main classes of antiretrovirals (ART)

b) Review principles of combination therapy

c) Review goals of treatment and monitoring while on ART

Meet Dr. Anupama Raghuram

Dr. Raghuram is a dual board-certified Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases physician. She graduated as an MD from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, NY and her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, NY. She later joined the University of Louisville (UofL) Division of Infectious Diseases as an Assistant then Associate Professor of Medicine. She directed a large federally funded outpatient center for HIV care; initiated a PrEP program for HIV prevention; served as an Associate ID Fellowship Program Director and was the travel and vaccine clinic medical liaison. She has authored several peer reviewed articles in the areas of HIV, vaccines, and community and hospital acquired pneumonia. She is affiliated with UofL as a gratis Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine.
